Alor Setar

Al-Bukhary Mosque
Masjid Albukhary, or Al-Bukhary Mosque, is one of the newest and most impressive landmarks in Alor Setar. It was built by Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar Albukhary, a local businessman, who was successful in the truck business.
Masjid Albukhary is part of Kompleks Albukhary, a large Islamic center that includes a medical center, a community center, an orphanage, an academy for the elderly, and a center for higher education. The project is developed by Yayasan Albukhary, or Albukhary Foundation. Next to Komplek Albukhary is another project developed by Yayasan Albukhary, Souq Albukhary.
Wat Nikrodharam
This is one of the interesting places to visit in Alor Setar. The largest, most prominent, and most architecturally impressive Buddhist temple complex in Kadah State is located in Alor Seter city. Built in Thailand temple architecture with gilded roofs and colorful mosaic walls, it is a rare, peaceful place that caters to the predominantly Chinese and Thai Buddhist communities
Built in 1968, this is a very new temple. Whether you come here to pray or visit, you should take some time to admire the temple's architecture.
Zahir Mosque
The most unique and historical mosque in Alor Setar. Its situated beside main road and not far from Alor Setar Tower and Aman Central Mall. This Mosque is an icon for Alor Setar city. A beautifully designed mosque especially at night with all the lights. It is one of the grandest and oldest mosques in Malaysia, having been built in 1912.This mosque has been voted as one of the top 10 most beautiful mosques in the world.
Commercial centers
Aman Central Mall is Alor Setar's largest and most famous shopping complex, with delicous food, shops, and cinemas in prime location next to the Telecom Tower. Other notable malls are city Plaza, Star Parade, and Alor Setar Mall. Don't miss try local dishes at the food courts, such as lasca noodles or traditional nasi lemak (fragrant rice cooked in coconut milk and pandan leaves). A culinary stop is always the perfect way to end the day!
How to visit to Alor Setar
Although Alor Setar is a small city, it also has its own airport. Sultan Abdul Halim Airport (AOR) is located 10km from the center but it only handles flights to Kuala Lumpur and Medan in Sumatra (Indonesia). As an alternative, you can flight to Penang, which has many international flights and better service, and then travel to Alor Setar by road.
The best time to travel to Alor Setar
The best ideal time for you to take a trip to Alor Setar from April to September. It is Malaysia's dry season, the weather is quite pleasant, with not much rain, so it will be more convenient for your trip.
Although still quite unfamiliar to tourists, the city of Alor Setar is still worthy of being a stop on your countless journeys. Not only does it have a colorful pass with Kedah Sultanate, but it also has many beautiful Moorish buildings as well as a blend of cultures that comes from its special geographical location.
